Betty’s Sugar Craft
I Benito De Souza born in Zanzibar a beautiful Tropical Spice Island on
the East Coast of Africa now known as Tanzania wish to introduce my
wife Elizabeth De Souza well known by everyone as 'Betty', born in
India, and at a very young age migrated to Zanzibar with her family,
Albert & Muriel Bocarro and brother Colin.
Betty studied at St. Joseph's Convent School Zanzibar where we first met as I
was born in Zanzibar. I knew from that moment on that I had met My Forever
Soulmate.
At a very young age Betty learnt to sew, a talent she learnt from her mother who was
a professional seamstress.
Betty's other interests were baking, and making fancy cakes, besides enjoying a lively
sporting life from swimming, boating, playing hockey and best of all loved dancing
where she was a great Rock n' Roll and Cha Cha dancer.
At the age of 7, Betty enjoyed baking cakes at home, and at school, enjoyed her
Domestic Science lessons under the supervision of teacher Loretta De Lord.
Betty and her family moved to the United Kingdom soon after she and her brother,
Colin, completed their Studies in Zanzibar. Colin qualified as a Chartered
Accountant whilst Betty & her cousin Norma worked for Thomas Cook.
Here we GO!! The reason for me introducing my wife Betty (childhood sweetheart),
is because I feel her Sugar Craft skills need to be shared with friends and relatives
globally, hoping many will take up this lovely hobby. As a result, I have created a
website titled "Betty's Sugarcraft" - Web address www.bettyssugarcraft.com
Betty made her first wedding cake for our daughter Yvette May who was determined
that her mum make her a three tier wedding cake with cascading lilies. In spite of
having no experience, she took on the challenge with the help of a crash course in
Sugar Craft.
What success with her first wedding cakes. The photographs below says it all.
Besides making the wedding cakes, Betty made the bridal gown, bridesmaids dresses
and waistcoats for the wedding party, plus her own gown.
Every year Betty enjoys making the Christmas and Birthday cakes for all the
members of our family. Well with 3 children and 7 grandchildren certainly keeps her
busy all year round.
Over the years with her dressmaking skills, Betty has produced some beautiful
gowns for our two daughters and friends. She has also kept up her passion for
cooking, producing various menus from different countries to include Chinese,
Indian, English and Turkish/Greek food. Betty is also an expert gardener.
(Photos will follow later with much more to come).
My dearest Family, Relatives and our Global Friends,
Betty's Sugar Craft
After years of writing and posting and promoting everybody’s achievements,
I am delighted to share with you what is nearest and dearest my heart,
namely, my wife Betty’s, hidden-no-more, talents. All of you have seen and
experienced Betty’s ‘Wonder Woman’ hospitality and friendship, and I
am proud to tell you that she totally complimented me and my interest in
music, dancing, parenting and everything all of you delve into within your
families. I feel I am truly blest, and I am. And, it is with true joy and pride
that I devote this new website dedicated to Betty. www.bettyssugarcraft.com
